One of the faster ways to climb to the top.
Note: There's a lot more than this to do in MapleStory. This is a rough progression guide to lead you on the right path.
[1] Focus on grinding your character to level 150~160. This is where the game becomes much more saturated. You will begin doing dailies, prequests, and start going for end game equipment. The early game of MapleStory essentially ends when grinding for levels and progressing slows down drastically.
[1.5] Guilds will take interest in you at this point. Find a guild that you like, and do daily bosses with them if they request that you do. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The majority of the wikis are outdated, so the main way of getting information is through other players.
[2] Finish these questlines. These include:
[Temple of Time] This should be first on your list after you hit 160. It will gain you a few levels and allow you to progress in levels by farming at Road to Oblivion 4. It will also allow you to fight Pink Bean, who drops the Pink Holy Cup, an end-game pocket item.
[Crimsonheart Castle] Allows your character to run Gollux. Gollux is an essential boss for obtaining end game accessories. You can find this quest through the lightbulb icon. GUIDE: http://ellinia.net/threads/gollux-prequest-guide.441/
[Magnus Simulator] 2 second quest. Accept this from Edea through the lightbulb icon in order to be able to do Easy Magnus.
[Heliseum] You should have gotten this quest at level 90 as a lightbulb above your head. It is long and tedious, but there should be no problems in actually finishing any of the quests. This will allow you to do Normal and Hard Magnus, who both drop mid / end game equipment.
[San Commerci] A must do. Allows you to do Solo Commerci and Commerci PQ runs, which drop end game equipment.
[Ghost Ship] You can receive this questline in Boat Quay Town, Singapore (Get there through Spinel in Henesys). Speak to Ralph the Wanderer to begin the questline. Finishing this questline will reward you with the Ghost Ship Exorcist Badge, an essential end game equip.
[Boss Arena] You can participate in Boss Arena through the book icon. If your class does not have a quest that provides you with an emblem, you can participate in 10 games of Boss Arena for an emblem than can have potential on it. Make sure to google whether or not your class can obtain an emblem.

[Silent Crusade] Silent crusade will provide a lot of mid game filler equipment while you grind for end game equipment. It will also give you the Superior Hunter title, which is an end game title. It should be a relatively quick questline.
[Masteria Through Time] A lengthy questline, but you are rewarded with an android, a chair and the best medal in the game. The android comes with a shop, so you can sell items on the go. [Beasts of Fury] If Masteria Through Time is unavailable, you can run this questline for another medal. Picking Red Tiger's clan or Gold Dragon's clan doesn't change the outcome of the medal stats. In order to get the medal, you have to beat Beasts of Fury bosses 100 times (after finishing the questline). You can run 10 a day. |
[3] At this point, you should be doing a few essential runs every day, which include:
Normal Zakum x2
Normal Hilla x2
Easy Ranmaru x2 (Pick up and learn as many recipes as possible)
Commerci Solo Runs (Early PQ carries if you're in a guild)
Easy Gollux x3
Root Abyss (If you're in a guild, make sure to take a guild member in your party for contribution)
Monster Park (Use coins to buy a greed pendant, and stock up as many Extreme Red/Blue and Green potions as possible. Blue potions are for classes that use Magic ATT, and Red potions are for classes that use Weapon ATT)
(Refer to the DAILIES section for more information)

[4] Between all of these questlines, let's assume you have the full Pensalir set. Use epic potential scrolls on any end game gear you have, and use Master Craftsman Cubes (from Henesys general shop) on each one of your gears for at least 3% mainstat. Complete the Yu Garden and Shaolin Temple questlines for totems and Epic Potential Scrolls (50%).
[5] Start working on Smithing, Mining, Herbalism and Alchemy like crazy (Ardentmill). When your Smithing is level 10, create a Japanese Weapon for your character. If you have enough Magic Powder (Purple), create boots and gloves as well.
[6] Begin cubing your gear (PRIORITY: Secondary -> Emblem -> Badge -> Weapon -> Pendant / Belt / Rings -> Armor) for at least 6% mainstat potentials. Your weapon, secondary and emblem should have %MAtt/%Att instead of mainstat.
(Check out the CUBING section I've made) By now, you should have around ~400-600k range. If you cannot be carried by players in your guild, find players of equal skill so you can beat bosses like Madman Ranmaru, Pink Bean and Hard Gollux. [7] Start working on Link Skill characters, and meso farming mules. Refer to the MESO FARMING section, and the LINK SKILLS section. [8] By now you should be completely set up with endgame equipment other than your armor set. You should be able to run Chaos Root Abyss when you've perfected your Seconary, Emblem, Badge and Weapon for the Fafnir (end game) set. [9] Hours upon hours of meso farming so that you can kill Hard Magnus, Chaos Vellum and Hellux. If you were lucky you'll have a few Sweetwater pieces by now. Now we wait patiently for the Maplestory V update. |
Remember that a lot of your MapleStory career revolves around your guild. Progressing through the game solo gets harder and harder as you climb the levels. If and/or when you become one of the top players, remember to give back to others by carrying them through the now trivial things for you such as hard Gollux and CRA.
